Entrance Exams
GRE Optional
The GRE is now optional for all Swanson School of Engineering (SSoE) programs, including PhD, MS, and certificate programs. If you have taken the GRE and believe your scores would strengthen your application, you may upload them in the optional documents section. However, submitting GRE scores is not required for admission.
Please note that this GRE waiver applies only to SSoE programs. If you are applying to a dual degree program with another Pitt school, such as those requiring the GMAT, MCAT, or other exams, please check the specific requirements of the degree-granting school listed below.
If you choose to submit your GRE scores, please ensure they are sent directly from the Educational Testing Service (ETS) using the University of Pittsburgh’s code: 2927.
Other Entrance Exams
While the Swanson School of Engineering does not require the GRE for our traditional engineering programs, certain joint and specialized programs do require standardized tests such as the GMAT, MCAT, or others. Please review the table below for specific requirements related to these programs. Make sure to check the details carefully to ensure you meet the necessary criteria for your desired program.
