Recommendations
Our Engineering graduate programs require a minimum of 2-3 letters of recommendation depending on the program at the time of application. Applicants submit contact information for their chosen recommenders as part of the EngineeringCAS application.
Program | Minimum Number of Letters of Recommendation |
---|---|
Bioengineering | 3 letters of recommendation |
Chemical & Petroleum Engineering | 3 letters of recommendation |
Civil & Environmental Engineering | 3 letters of recommendation |
Computational Modeling & Simulation | 2 letters of recommendation |
Electrical & Computer Engineering | 2 letters of recommendation |
Industrial Engineering | 2 letters of recommendation |
Materials Science & Engineering | 2 letters of recommendation |
Mechanical Engineering | 2 letters of recommendation |
Nuclear Engineering | 2 letters of recommendation |
Sustainable Engineering | 2 letters of recommendation |
Individuals qualified to evaluate your capacity for graduate work should write the letters. At least one letter should be from a faculty member at the last school attended as a full-time student. Preferably, these would be academic references in your major field. If this is not possible, we recommend students approach those persons who can comment specifically on qualifications relevant to the pursuit of advanced degrees.
LIASON LETTERS
All letters of recommendation must be submitted through the Liaison Letters recommender portal. When you request recommendations, your recommender receives an email request with a link to Liaison Letters. Recommenders review your requests, and then accept, complete, or deny them.
All letters must be on letterhead, signed by the letter writer, and include their contact phone number and email address.
If assistance is needed with the recommendation, your recommender can contact Liaison Letters directly at letters@liaisoncas.com.
CHECK THE STATUS OF YOUR LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION
Applications are not considered complete until the minimum number of letters of recommendation have been received. It’s your responsibility to check that all the required letters of recommendation have been received and completed on time. Allow time when applying for your recommenders to complete their recommendations by the application deadline.
Log in to your EngineeringCAS portal to check the status of your recommendations in the “Check Status” tab of your application. Completed recommendations are marked as "Complete" and have a Complete Date listed. Follow up with your recommenders if their recommendations are still marked as "Requested" or "Accepted."
You are able to resend the recommendation request to your recommender(s) and change your recommender’s email address through the EngineeringCAS portal. Consult the EngineeringCAS Applicant Help Center or contact EngineeringCAS Customer Service for assistance.
