Newly Admitted Transfer Students

Congratulations on your admission to the Swanson School of Engineering. Use the resources and checklist below to prepare for your first term at Pitt.

Your Department

Transfer Checklist

  • Check your Pitt email regularly and review your junk filters — important communications from advisors and offices may be filtered depending on the sender.
  • Watch for a letter from the Office of Engineering Administration with your academic advisor's contact information. If you do not receive this letter, email ssoetransfer@pitt.edu.
  • Schedule an appointment with your academic advisor (listed on your acceptance letter).
  • Register for courses as outlined by your academic advisor.
  • Enroll in ENGR 0087 - Transfer Engineering Seminar.
  • If you have not already done so, begin your housing search. Most transfer students live off campus; visit the Off Campus Living website for guidance. Transfer students are not guaranteed on-campus housing, but you may be placed on a waitlist by contacting Panther Central after your deposit has been received.
  • Contact Financial Aid regarding loans, scholarships, or any other aid you may receive.
  • Visit Panther Central (located in Litchfield Towers) to pick up your Pitt ID card. You must be registered for classes before picking up your ID. Students admitted for the fall semester may pick up their ID after August 1.
  • Purchase your textbooks through the University bookstore.
  • Attend Transfer Orientation. You will receive details about orientation dates and registration in your Pitt email.
  • Continue checking your email for updates from your academic advisor on advising appointments, special course offerings, and registration.

If You Are New to the University of Pittsburgh System

The following steps apply to students who have not previously attended the University of Pittsburgh.

  • Log in to my.pitt.edu using your Pitt email and password to access your eBill, CourseWeb, PeopleSoft, and other University resources. If you are unfamiliar with PeopleSoft, review the Enrollment Tutorial on the Registrar's website.
  • Have all final, official transcripts sent to ssoetransfer@pitt.edu.
  • Log in to PeopleSoft to review your Transfer Credit Report and confirm all transfer credit is reflected. If anything appears to be missing, contact your academic advisor or email ssoetransfer@pitt.edu.

International students: Complete all required orientation programs before registering for courses. Contact the Office of International Services with any questions.
