The Pitt EXCEL Program is a comprehensive undergraduate diversity program committed to the recruitment, retention, development, and graduation of historically underrepresented engineering scholars. Pitt EXCEL scholars strive to advance in the areas of scholarship, professionalism, graduate endeavors, and community engagement. In addition, Pitt EXCEL scholars have access to academic counseling, peer mentoring for first year and upperclassmen scholars, year specific seminars, tutoring, engineering research, graduate school preparation and professional development workshops. Lastly, first year Pitt EXCEL scholars are eligible to participate in our two-week intensive STEM summer bridge program.

Vision

Achieve 100% placement in each Pitt EXCEL scholar’s desired engineering field of pursuit, inclusive of graduate school, industry, and medical school. Establishing lifelong connections with fellow undergraduate scholars, staff, faculty, alumni, and industry relations. Producing the highest achieving scholars that rank in the top 20% in all engineering disciplines within the Swanson School of Engineering.

Student Services

SUMMER ENGINEERING ACADEMY

SEA's main goal is to help students make the adjustment to the demands of college life and prepare them for the rigors of an engineering curriculum.

SUMMER RESEARCH INTERNSHIP (SRI)

SRI focuses on the preparation of underrepresented students for graduate education and professional careers in engineering. The goals of the program are to identify motivated students and match them with faculty mentors.

EXCEL TUTORING RESOURCES

The EXCEL Tutorial Center offers tutoring to all students in the Swanson School of Engineering, with primary focus on the freshmen engineering curriculum and sophomore level courses.

ACADEMIC ADVISING & COUNSELING

EXCEL students will meet one-on-one with an EXCEL academic counselor on a bi-weekly basis to discuss strategies to maximize their academic potential.
