This work investigates the platinum nanoparticle deformation mechanism by in situ TEM. The key finding is that deformation mechanism is size-dependent. Above 10 nm, the nanoparticles follow traditional dislocation-mediated displacive deformation mechanism, while below 10 nm, the nanoparticles follow surface-mediated diffusive deformation mechanism.
