The Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for the position of Department Chair and Professor. We are looking for a scholar with a multi-disciplinary focus; strong leadership and interpersonal skills; a transformative vision for the future of engineering in general and industrial engineering in particular; and a plan to realize that vision.

Applicants for the position must possess a PhD in Industrial Engineering, or a closely related field and, be qualified for appointment as a tenured, full professor in the Swanson School of Engineering. They should have an established record of conducting high-quality sponsored research; producing impactful publications in leading journals; and demonstrating a proven commitment to diversity and educational excellence at the undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral levels. We are especially looking for a leader who can leverage synergies across Pitt, other universities, and industry, in order to build strong partnerships, including major centers, initiatives and industrial collaborations.

The IE Department at Pitt is among the oldest in the world and has celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2021. We have state-of-the-art research and educational facilities and strong connections to local industry. Pitt-IE features innovative undergraduate and graduate programs and world-class research in operations research, manufacturing sciences, healthcare, data sciences human factors and traditional industrial engineering. Our undergraduate and master’s students have an outstanding placement record at leading companies, and our doctoral students have successfully found faculty positions at major universities in the U.S. and abroad, as well as cutting-edge research positions in industry.
