Swanson School is committed to the overall success of our students, which is why we have created the Office of Retention.
Since 2017, the Office of Retention has supported the academic and career success of engineering students through the ACE program, proactively guiding those who may be struggling before they can be met with suspension or dismissal.
Each semester, the ACE program helps prospective engineers get back on their path to success by way of weekly group meetings, study sessions, peer mentoring, and support check-ins. With ACE, Retention endeavors to partner with students so a semester of falling behind or a year of poor mental health doesn’t mean the end of a promising career.
Academic and Career Enhancement (ACE) Program
ACE (Academic and Career Enhancement) is for students who have faced an academic set-back and want to raise their grades to good standing and experience academic success. Students will learn skills that offer a holistic perspective on lifestyle changes which includes:

- Time Management
- Grit
- Growth Mindset
- Managing Distractions
- Academic Motivation
- Test Preparation/Test Taking
- The Importance of Sleep
- Managing Stress & Burnout
- Mindset for Succeeding

Final grades demonstrate a 100% retention in Swanson School for students who complete this 15-week program. The average term GPA trend for participants always increases by the end of the semester.
