What is amateur radio
Amateur Radio is a hobby shared by many electronics enthusiasts. It includes the design, customization and usage of radio transmission equipment with other amateur radio operators across the globe.
How did amateur radio start?
Ever since Reginald Fessenden successfully modulated voices in order to transmit them wirelessly, amateurs have been experimenting with different radio transmission technologies. Click here for more information.
I want to become an amateur radio operator, but how do I do it?
In order to transmit on amateur radio bands, you must be licensed. This website provides extensive information on how to go about getting licensed. If you are a University of Pittsburgh faculty member or student, you are welcome to join PARC and learn the ins and outs of amateur radio with University equipment.
