Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning

The Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL) seeks to enhance excellence in STEM undergraduate education through development of a national faculty committed to implementing and advancing evidence-based teaching practices for diverse learners. CIRTL offers a variety of online courses and workshops.

 

 


Engineering Education Research Center

The Engineering Education Research Center (EERC) at the University of Pittsburgh was established in 2011 to expand engineering education research and produce new approaches to learning that engage students.  The Center strives to engage faculty in the integration of research-based practices to enhance their teaching, as well as to engage faculty in utilizing research to better understand learning of engineering.

 

 


Discipline-based Science Education Research Center

The Discipline-based Science Education Research Center (dB-SERC) at the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) strives to work with faculty members in all Natural Sciences departments at Pitt to create a community to improve the teaching and learning through evidence-based practices.  dB-SERC can provide departments help in developing appropriate, measurable goals for science courses, curricula, and programs as a whole and assessing the extent to which those goals are met through effective teaching and learning strategies.

 

 


University Center for Teaching and Learning

The mission of the University Center for Teaching and Learning is to promote excellence and innovation in teaching, learning, and scholarly activities at the University of Pittsburgh.

They endeavor to achieve this mission by:

  • Providing expertise in instructional design and development
  • Developing and supporting teaching and learning environments
  • Effectively applying current and emerging instructional technologies
  • Delivering services for the assessment, measurement and evaluation of teaching

Office of Academic Career Development

The Office of Academic Career Development (OACD)is dedicated to providing professionals in the schools of the health sciences (the Schools of Dental Medicine, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, Health and Rehabilitation Sciences) with the professional tools, resources, and support they need to achieve their full potential as leaders in biomedical research, education, and clinical practice. As a model for comprehensive academic career development programs internationally, OACD seeks to empower the academic health science community, including graduate and medical students, postdoctoral associates and scholars, residents, clinical associates, and faculty by providing academic career development guidance, training, and support.

 


University of Pittsburgh Postdoctoral Association

The mission of the University of Pittsburgh Postdoctoral Association (UPPDA) is to facilitate a more constructive and positive experience for Postdoctoral Professionals that will benefit Postdoctoral Professionals and the University of Pittsburgh alike.  The focus of the efforts of the UPPDA includes:

Graduate and Professional Student Government

The Graduate and Professional Student Government (GPSG) is the student government for all graduate and professional students at the Oakland campus of the University of Pittsburgh.  It administers half of the graduate student activity fee.  It uses this fee to provide services and event programming to all graduate and professional students.

GPSG also connects graduate/professional students to Pitt's administrators through graduate student representation on many University committees. GPSG represents the concerns of all graduate and professional students, so please contact them if you have an issue they can help with.

 

 


Postdoc Academy

The Postdoc Academy is a comprehensive online and in-person program built on the National Postdoctoral Association core competencies to support skill development throughout postdoc training, from orientation to next career step.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency created by Congress in 1950 "to promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare; to secure the national defense…" With an annual budget of $7.3 billion (FY 2015), we are the funding source for approximately 24 percent of all federally supported basic research conducted by America's colleges and universities. In many fields such as mathematics, computer science and the social sciences, NSF is the major source of federal backing.


 


Great Lakes Higher Education Corporation

The Great Lakes Higher Education Corporation (GLHEC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping make college a reality. They also make successful student loan repayment possible, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Education and private lenders.
