Dr. Congedo came to Pitt from the position of Director of Technology Development within Westinghouse Research and Technology, where he led the Central R&T laboratories, leading a staff of world-recognized experimenters, analytical developers and facilities. He has thirty-six years of experience in the nuclear industry, including nuclear core design, nuclear reactor safety, nuclear fuel criticality and manufacturing safety. He has also been active in beneficial applications of nuclear radiation, including detection of environmental contamination and contraband.

Dr. Congedo holds fourteen patents and is the author of 17 peer-reviewed technical publications and one scientific handbook chapter. His personal interests include Martial Arts and music, both of which he has pursued for five decades.
