Masoud Barati received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, in 2013, and completed a postdoc at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 2014. He has served as an assistant professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Houston and Louisiana State University. Currently, he is an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. His primary research interest lies in the development of pure and applied mathematics for electric power systems modeling and underestanding.

In pure mathematics, he utilizes algebraic geometry and category theory to address computational problems within power systems. For applied mathematics, he leverages optimization simulation, quantum computing, Bayesian statistics, and deep learning to develop power system applications. These computational tools are employed in various aspects of power system operation and control, as well as planning, under both normal conditions and during natural hazards such as heat waves, snowstorms, flooding, and cyber-attacks. Additionally, his research interests extend to the AC optimal power flow, energy justice, and managing multi-interdependent infrastructures.
