Announcing the NSF Workshop on Algorithm-Hardware Co-design for Medical Applications
A new workshop at the University of Pittsburgh will help engineers and clinicians utilize algorithmic and hardware design technologies for the development of computer-assisted medical applications.
Pitt will host the NSF Workshop on Algorithm-Hardware Co-design for Medical Applications at the University Club on September 26th and 27th, 2024, chaired by Swanson School of Engineering faculty Peipei Zhou, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering; and Jingtong Hu, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering. This workshop is supported through an award from the National Science Foundation to overcome obstacles and accelerate advancements in both algorithmic and hardware design technologies for the development of computer-assisted medical applications.
“We want to provide this workshop so that all different groups of people can work together to use this technology for medical solutions,” Zhou said. “We want to make our research applicable to everyday life, but we need to collaborate with doctors and government agencies to together make sure that it's practical outside the lab.”
According to Zhou, this workshop is a unique opportunity for healthcare practitioners, academic researchers, industry experts, and government officials to engage in a collaborative dialogue on the pressing needs, challenges, and innovative solutions within the realm of algorithm and hardware co-design. The workshop will also serve as a platform to develop a strategic roadmap for future initiatives in this crucial field.
The workshop will have featured speakers, panels and break-out sessions in broad research themes including teleoperations/telehealth/surgery operation, wearable & implantable medicine/implantable living pharmacy, medical sensing/imaging/reconstruction, and home ICU/hospital/elderly care.
