Made possible through a gift from the John Francis Oyler and Nancy Lee Victoria Fleck Oyler Foundation
The Oyler Fellowship provides full tuition support for a graduate student who specializes in structures or solid mechanics. Graduate students must maintain good academic standing with at least a 3.0 GPA to receive the fellowship. Preference is given to students who enter through the Swanson School's Engineering Accelerated Graduate (EAGr) program. EAGr students earn both a bachelor's and master's degree in five years, and the Oyler Fellowship applies to the fifth year of enrollment. For more information please contact Dr. Vikas Khanna or Dr. Steven Sachs.
Dr. Oyler served for 25 years as a professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering before his retirement in 2018. He began his teaching career after 40 years in industry, where he worked for Dravo Corporation, Daxus Corporation, and his own consulting firm, Oyler Consulting Services.
During his Pitt tenure, he taught Statics, Mechanics of Materials, Materials of Construction, and Senior Design Projects. His hope is that the Oyler Fellowship will help jump-start students’ careers in the field in which he dedicated more than 65 years of service.
