Project Area 8:

Smart Coating for Mg implants

As part of the Revolutionizing Metallic Biomaterials, a National Science Foundation funded Engineering Research Center, we are developing intelligent coatings for magnesium based medical implants. Mg implants take advantage of the mechanical properties of Mg metal and safe biodegradation profile, and have shown great potential in orthopedics and cardiovascular applications. Smart coatings are designed to control the degradation rate, reduce the inflammatory tissue response and improve functional integration.
