Abstract: Founded in 2018 and housed in the Department of Geology and Environmental Science, the Pittsburgh Water Collaboratory works to bridge efforts in water research, governance, and action. By connecting universities, local governments, non-profits, & community groups, they aim to align efforts across the region. The Director of the Collaboratory, Jonathan Burgess, will give a brief overview of the center, their work, and how they can support researchers and students. Then, two core faculty (Dr. Emily Elliott and Dr. Patrick Shirey) will provide snapshots of their respective research into water quality across the Ohio River Basin and ecosystem restoration in degraded landscapes. Special attention will be placed on the Collaboratory’s current NSF Convergence Accelerator project that blends interdisciplinary research, community partnerships, and education.
