An Introduction to Evidence-Based Undergraduate STEM Teaching (Orientation Session)

09-03-14 | 03:30 PM | Benedum 312 + Register

This course consists of a MOOC ("massively open online course") offered on the Coursera platform (www.coursera.org), combined with in-person class meetings of the local learning community at the University of Pittsburgh. Students will meet with the facilitator for the course, Dr. Mary Besterfield-Sacre, four times during the semester to go over the material in the online sessions, and to relate it to their teaching experiences in labs, discussions, and classrooms. The course will draw on the expertise of experienced STEM faculty, educational researchers, and staff from university teaching centers, many of them affiliated with the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (CIRTL), a network of 22 research universities collaborating in the preparation of STEM graduate students and post-docs as future faculty members.
NOTE: If you plan to take the course for credit, you will ALSO need to add the class through www.my.pitt.edu (CRN #29705).
This class meets four times during the semester at 2:30 - 3:30. Meeting dates are September 24, October 22, November 12 and December 3. Attendance is required for credit-seeking students and encouraged for all students.… Learn more
