The primary mission of the Center for Instructional Development & Distance Education (CIDDE) is to promote excellence and innovation in teaching, learning and scholarly activities at the University of Pittsburgh. We can best accomplish our mission through direct interaction with faculty in the schools, departments, and regional campuses of the University. So far, with the help of liaisons, our efforts have been successful. The number of faculty utilizing CIDDE services continues to grow and now it is rare to hear someone say “Oh, I didn’t know CIDDE does that.”

The main responsibility of a liaison is regular communication about instructional needs within their department or discipline that CIDDE could help to address. CIDDE contacts liaisons regularly to inform them about upcoming learning opportunities for themselves and their colleagues, to ask for feedback on new projects, and to make sure that they are aware of all the various ways CIDDE provides assistance to faculty. Liaisons play a very important role in helping CIDDE maintain contact with faculty and stay current with their needs.
