... FROM THE EAST:
Cars traveling from the east via the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76) should take Exit 57 to I-376 West. From I-376 (the "Parkway East") take the "University of Pittsburgh/Oakland/Route 885 North" exit (Exit 3B) onto Bates Street. Stay on Bates until it ends at Bouquet Street, approximately eight-tenths of a mile. Turn left onto Bouquet, then right at the first light onto Forbes Avenue.

... FROM THE WEST:
Cars traveling from the west via the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76) should take Exit 28 (Cranberry) and follow I-79 South to I-279 South. Follow I-279 to the "Veteran's Bridge" exit, then exit onto I-579 South. Proceed on I-579 to the "Oakland/Monroeville" exit, and then exit onto the Boulevard of the Allies. Continue on the Boulevard of the Allies for about 1 mile until to see the "Forbes Avenue" exit on your right. Forbes Avenue then leads right into the Pitt campus.

..FROM THE NORTH:
Take I-79 South to I-279 South. (You exit to the left off I-79.) Follow I-279 until the "Veteran's Bridge" exit onto I-579 South. Proceed on I-579 to the "Oakland/Monroeville" exit onto the Boulevard of the Allies. Continue on the Boulevard of the Allies for about 1 mile until to see the "Forbes Avenue" exit on your right. Forbes Avenue then leads right into the Pitt campus.

...FROM THE SOUTH, INCLUDING PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT:
Follow I-79 North to the exit for I-279 North. Take I-279 through the Fort Pitt Tunnels and across the bridge to the I-376 Monroeville Exit (first exit on the right). Follow I-376 to the "Forbes Avenue-Oakland" exit. Forbes Avenue leads right into the Pitt campus.

 


BY PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION:

The Pittsburgh International Airport provides ground transportation form the airport to various destinations including the University of Pittsburgh Campus. These various ways are: Rental Car, Limousine Services, Charter Bus, Public Transportation, Taxis & Shuttles.

Amtrak provides daily service from Pittsburgh to Cleveland, Chicago, Harrisburg, New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C., via the Capitol Limited and the Three Rivers. Call 1-800-USA-RAIL (800-872-7245) for fare and schedule information.

Greyhound Lines, Inc. operates frequent service to Pittsburgh's main bus terminal, located Downtown at 11th Street and Liberty Avenue. The Pittsburgh Campus can be reached by local PAT buses or by taxi service. Call 1-800-231-2222 for fare and schedule information.

Port Authority of Allegheny County operates the mass transit system serving metropolitan Pittsburgh, including the Pittsburgh Campus. Fares vary within a five-zone system extending in all directions from Downtown Pittsburgh to the outer suburbs. Basic fare is $1.75. Exact change is required. Transfers can be purchased for a quarter, and can be used for one connection in any direction within three hours of the time of purchase; riders pay as they enter on inbound trips toward Downtown Pittsburgh, and pay as they exit on outbound trips before 7:00 p.m. After 7:00 p.m., riders must pay as they enter on all trips. Bus service to the Oakland area is frequent; local buses numbered 71 (1, B, C, or D), 67 (A or F), or 61 (A, B, or C) come into Oakland and may be boarded along Fifth Avenue in Downtown Pittsburgh. Yellow Cab (412-665-8100), Checker Cab (412-664-5600), and People’s Cab (412-441-3200) provide service to the Oakland area. Fares from Downtown are approximately $7, and fares from the airport are approximately $30. Specify the University of Pittsburgh Schenley Quad as your destination.

 


DIRECTIONS TO PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE (FROM PITTSBURGH CAMPUS):

Take Fifth Avenue toward Downtown Pittsburgh, staying in the left lane (closest to the bus lane).

Turn left on Craft Avenue. Proceed on Craft Avenue in the left lane. Cross over Forbes Avenue.

At the next traffic light, turn left onto the Boulevard of the Allies. Proceed on the Boulevard of the Allies, staying to the right, to the second traffic light and turn right onto Bates Street.

Proceed on Bates Street and follow the signs for I-376 East ("Monroeville"). Exit onto I-376 East and follow the signs for the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Approximate distance and time to Pennsylvania Turnpike: About eight miles or 20 minutes. (Allow additional time during afternoon rush hours.)

 


DIRECTIONS TO PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AND POINTS WEST (FROM PITTSBURGH CAMPUS):

Take Fifth Avenue toward Downtown Pittsburgh, staying in the second lane from the bus lane. Turn left on Craft Avenue. Continue down Craft Avenue for one block in the far right-hand lane. This lane must turn right onto Forbes Avenue. Turn right onto Forbes Avenue and continue straight until you reach a stop sign.

At the stop sign, make a right-hand turn onto the Boulevard of the Allies. Continue on the Boulevard of the Allies in the right-hand lane. Follow the signs for I-376 West marked "Fort Pitt Bridge/Downtown." This lane will bring you to a merge point with I-376 West. Once on I-376 West, get into the second lane from the left. This will be the lane for I-279 South ("Airport"). Follow this sign and remain in this lane.

Continue on I-279 South onto the Fort Pitt Bridge and through the Fort Pitt Tunnel. Follow I-279 South for several miles.

The exit for I-79 North or South will be on your right.

To get to Pittsburgh International Airport, proceed on I-279 South.

Approximate Distance and Time to Airport: About 15 miles or 40 minutes. (Allow additional time during afternoon rush hours.)
