Phipps’ Center for Sustainable Landscapes
Phipps is designing a new building, the Center for Sustainable Landscapes, which has entered into the Living Building Challenge (LBC). The LBC imagines a building that generates all of its own energy with renewable resources, captures and treats all its water, and uses resources efficiently. In planning to meet this challenge and be the first in the world to receive The Living Building Award, Phipps sees this project as a regional effort through which the best talent and organizations in Pittsburgh's sustainable-design arena can come together to promote the region and the state of Pennsylvania.
Drs. Bilec and Landis have been engaged in the design charrettes for CSL. As CSL’s design continues, they will also assist the designers in using life-cycle assessment to inform design decisions on materials and equipment, along with boundary issues.
